Harvey

When we were contacted to help Harvey, the circumstances were sad and complicated. His owner had died, leaving him in the care of friends who were doing their very best to help him through his loss and adjust to a new situation. Before her death, Harvey’s owner and he were inseparable companions. When diabetes led to him developing cataracts, she made sure he had everything he needed to adjust to the challenges and paid for successful eye surgery. He was a very well loved and cared for dog and his world was turned on its head when she died.

With the financial and practical demands of diabetes treatment and ongoing eye care, the difficult decision was made that for Harvey’s best longer term interests, a new and experienced home would be sought for him.

Working with Starfish Dog Rescue and Harvey’s friends, family and veterinary team, we ensured that he was soon settled into his new home with Schnauzerfest volunteers Nicole and Issy and their 5 resident schnauzers: Jessie, Teddy, Jingles, Esme and Dotty.

Harvey is a gentle natured, sociable dog and enjoys walks at his own pace, taking his time to enjoy his surroundings. Since arriving in his new home, he has been no problem at all accepting the daily eyedrops and insulin that he will be on for life to manage his diabetes.

From a sad and confusing situation, with the help of a small team of people coming together to secure things, Harvey has emerged bravely into what is a wonderful new life. All he needs, he will have in order to enjoy a healthy, stable future.
