Annabel Kelly

I grew up with dogs: my favourite companions were the family miniature schnauzer Rowsby and standard schnauzer Daisie, both of whom I doted on.

I’m mother to two young adults and I work as a teacher in a primary school. Learning about puppy farming changed my life. I’ve been committed to raising awareness against this terrible trade for many years - mainly since meeting Janetta Harvey and her dogs.

I have illustrated three books written by Janetta: Saving Maya (which educates about puppy farms through story-telling), Did Somebody Say Walk? (a picture book that celebrates dogs and walks) and Why Love Is Not Enough, a guide for adopters. I also draw many of the illustrations that help Schnauzerfest to spread its message far and wide.

Having lost my standard schnauzers Reeva and Alfie within a year of each other, today I share our home with miniature schnauzers, Max and Rufus. The boys have very different backgrounds - Rufus spent his early life in a nasty breeding situation and Max’s previous home was not somewhere he could thrive - and together we’re working it all out together.

I love being a Schnauzerfest Trustee and enjoy helping dogs, alongside all of the fabulous people across the UK who walk and fundraise to make Schnauzerfest such a huge success.
