DOG WALKS AND SCHNAUZERFEST

Schnauzerfest began as a fundraiser in October 2014. Friends around the UK organised walks together, making a donation if they wanted to. From this a lot has grown. Dog walks supporting Schnauzerfest have always been much more than fundraisers. They celebrate the joy dogs have when walking, something many dogs, and all those in puppy farms and other low welfare breeding places are denied.

Walks and Schnauzerfest are a legendary combination, appearing on ITV’s Britain’s Top 100 Dogs.

HOW WALKS FOR SCHNAUZERFEST HAPPEN

It is a simple thing to organise a walk with your friends in aid of the charity. It is how we started and there is nothing to stop you doing this yourself. Many people do it for Schnauzerfest every year and we are here to support all our fundraisers.

There are lots of groups on Facebook which are independently run and which organise walks through the year in aid of Schnauzerfest, as well as just being sociable.

But you don’t need to use Facebook, or social media to organise a local walk with friends. Use your own community to build interest in your walks and you’ll soon find people with dogs, including schnauzers who want to join you.

Walking prompts

This is our 10th anniversary year and we’d love to see many dogs and people out enjoying walks this year. Walks do not have to be organised. Walking our usual places with our dogs can and should be a lot of fun. But sometimes, a new approach can perk them up. This is where our Schnauzerfest Walks The Globe Prompts come in.

WHAT IS #SFWTGPrompts

Every month we'll give a #SFWTGPrompt on our social media platforms and in our newsletters. (Sign up here). We invite you to take a walk with your dog using it as your inspiration. There will be one new prompt every month.

  • Use the prompt to explore familiar surroundings or further afield.

  • Visit new places, or see the old with new inspiration using the prompt.

  • Post your photos on social media with tags #Schnauzerfest #SFWTGPrompts

CAN YOU SUGGEST A PROMPT

Absolutely you can! Get creative, drop us your prompts and we will randomly pick some during the year. There will be one new prompt every month.

ADVICE AROUND Dog theft for organised walks

We can offer more detailed advice on how to organise a fundraising walk if you wish to contact us. There are some specific risks we highlight, like dog theft.

Advertising walks on social media, especially with the scale of reach that Schnauzerfest has, presents a risk. This is why we don’t put full details out of any walks which are organised in support of the charity. We’re always happy to direct people to the people and groups which organise any fundraisers.

Organising walks is easy and fun to do with your friends and family, you just need to take basic precautions when advertising on social media. You might choose to do a walk in a secure field. Or, an on-lead walk, but we’d urge you to think first about the dogs’ enjoyment before deciding this. Not all dogs cope well in on-lead environments with strange dogs and don’t enjoy the restrictions. The dogs always come first with Schnauzerfest.

if you would like to walk in support of schnauzerfest

We’d love you to organise a fundraising walk, or any event you would enjoy doing. Do it your way, in your own time, with your friends and family and with our support. We’re here to advise, help and would love to hear from you.

Walks are at the heart of Schnauzerfest and much more than fundraisers. Being out there for Schnauzerfest, for the puppy farm dogs, for rescue dogs, wearing some orange, talking to people about our work, even without a fundraising element is terrific support for the charity.

Schnauzerfest is a warm and big hearted community. We rely on you to organise your walks and bring a lot of happiness to many along the way.
