Franki and Matilda

Franki and Matilda arrived in the care of Friends of Animals Wales with what at that point were assumed to be poorly hearts of unknown severity. Thankfully for Franki, after assessment her heart murmur was found to be low grade and she will soon be homed, and living a happy, carefree life.

However, Matilda’s problem is more serious. After being assessed by the specialist cardiology team at The Ralph Veterinary Referral Centre she has patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) the most common congenital heart disease in dogs. The (reasonably) good news for Matilda is that surgery is possible and will correct the defect. Without surgery, her lifespan will be severely shortened. Surgery will go ahead in a couple of months and a full Schnauzerfest Grant will cover all costs. This is specialist surgery, and worth every penny.

Your support for our charity makes it possible to ease some of the financial pressure faced by rescues like FOAW when saving dogs with serious needs.

MAY 2022 UPDATE

Both dogs now live happy, healthy lives with families who love them.

Matilda has a new name, Evie and lives with 3 schnauzer siblings who happily welcomed her into the family. We’re told she is a very gentle, friendly dog and meets everyone with a yap - a typically schnauzery welcome! She’s enjoyed a recent holiday in Scotland and loves the family caravan. With her heart surgery behind her, she loves regular daily walks with friends and healthy, playful activities.

Without having had the heart surgery Evie’s future would have been dire, financing life saving treatment like this is made possible by every donation to our charity.
