When Holly suddenly fell dangerously ill her family were plunged into crisis. Emergency treatment stabilised her but initial tests did not identify the cause and costs were quickly escalating. After a transfer to The Ralph and blood transfusions, Holly was diagnosed with the life threatening condition, immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia (IMHA).
Holly joined her family following the death of her previous owner and a subsequent adoption not working out. When Holly’s health crisis hit, her family were in the process of arranging insurance, they greatly regretted not doing so in time. By pulling out every stop, including a public appeal, they managed to cover some of the £10,000 costs by the time they applied for financial assistance from the charity.
They did all they could to raise funds, while coping with a number of complex things in their life, including providing round the clock care for a family member.
As a grant giving charity we have a formal, thorough application process. Holly’s application was assessed by the Board of Trustees, and in consultation with the veterinary professionals treating her.
A Grant was provided as a significant contribution towards the costs of Holly’s treatment. Which, along with their personal fundraising, enabled her family to meet the remaining costs through a payment plan agreed with the referral centre.
Very sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts Holly died a few days later.
