Solomon

Six year old standard schnauzer Solomon has experienced a difficult time since 2022 when his symptoms first started appearing. What began initially as recurrent urinary tract infections developed into complications with Struvite crystals requiring two major operations. In addition, countless medications, dietary changes and many regular veterinary visits and monitoring were part of his life. Thankfully Solomon’s family dedicated themselves to providing everything they could to help him.

Then in March this year, another major crisis developed and Solomon was referred to a specialist centre where it was discovered that he had been born with a congenital disorder, Persistant Mullerian Duct Syndrome. The disorder affects sexual development in male dogs. In simple terms, Solomon’s anatomy had not formed correctly and the only treatment was surgical correction.

As Solomon’s condition is congenital, his breeder was contacted by the family, but did not respond.

This specialist treatment came at a significant cost, exceeding his insurance cover and owner’s resources following the previous years of complicated, regular care for Solomon.

His family undertook personal fundraising which raised a good sum of money towards helping Solomon get the treatment which would save his life. But more was required, and after a successful application to the charity, a Schnauzerfest Grant was made available to settle the outstanding costs for the emergency, corrective surgery.

Solomon’s recovery took several weeks, but the great news is that surgery was successful and he is back to leading a fully active life with his schnauzer brother Reuben and friends.

Soloman is now so full of life and energy. He’s back to full walks and meeting up with his friends both old and new and various sizes...he is loving life...As are we!

We can never thank you enough, truly grateful and humbled.
