Sooty has had a horrible life. But now lives greatly loved, and safely in the sanctuary provided by North East Terrier Rescue. Sadly he’s facing some big orthopaedic challenges involving at least 2 operations.

“Sooty’s been with us a good few years. He absolutely cannot cope in the real world but thrives in the sanctuary of rescue. His world is kept small so that he feels safe, happy and loved.
Sooty originally came in as an emergency case from a very abusive home having suffered horribly. Kicked about like a football and otherwise spent most of his time locked in a small crate sat in his own excrement. The physical abuse he suffered left him with not only chronic health issues such as cluster seizures but also behavioural issues.
Unfortunately he has never been able to overcome his fear and hatred for people beyond his foster person and this is why he will remain with us for the rest of his days.”
Earlier in the year Sooty suffered a setback and a specialist orthopaedic consultation concluded surgery on his legs will, all going well, mean he can live actively and happily. Something he rightly deserves after years of abuse.
Orthopaedic treatment is expensive. Without his rescue Sooty would have no chance. Supporting dedicated rescue work like this is why Schnauzerfest exists.
A contribution of £1800 was recently made by the charity towards his first specialist operation which he’ll soon undergo. This is just the first stage for Sooty, he has some way to go before he’ll be back happily enjoying his walks again.
