Adopting The Slow Approach to Auctions

We’ve always liked to do things a little differently. Our first fundraising dog walks way back in 2014 didn’t follow the traditional sponsored walk method. We opted to model it differently, proving so successful it’s since been adopted by others who liked what they saw. The pandemic forced us to radically rethink, rejig and in the end, rejoice at how brilliant our supporters are at adopting and adapting to new ways of doing.

During the lockdowns we decided to venture into new territory for Schnauzerfest, online fundraising auctions. We’d always done online Market Nights, selling crafted, donated items but with our walks in doubt, we needed to expand our online fundraising.

Our Pop Up Shop-Auctions over the past couple of years have proven to be popular. We found a way that suited supporters and sat comfortably with the charity’s ethos. The Schnauzerfest £30 maximum price twist keeps prices sensible and in line with our commitment to be as fair and accessible to all, irrespective of personal financial circumstances. This goes right back to our roots, where our dog walks could always be attended by everyone, with no entry or sponsorship fee attached.

With a keenness to innovate and offer more to supporters we’ve reworked the auction model. We know people like to buy gifts and essentials from our charity at times when we may not have a Pop Up Sale running. So we’ve had a big think, looked around and found inspiration among friends in the rescue and charity network whose advice we value.

We’ve relaunched our Pop Up Shop and Auction with a taste of the slow about it. It suits us, and more importantly we think it’ll suit supporters. If it doesn’t, we’ll rethink. We’re always happy to adapt.

Our aim is that in these hectic, turbulent times, the Pop Up Shop will be a place where items will be found for sale throughout the year. We’re choosing to slip out of the frenetic nature of auctions, opting instead to feature a few goodies at a time. Items that have been lovingly crafted alongisde others that are bought and donated with a generous wish to help us, help the dogs. Items will be there to admire, appreciate and bid on, or buy if the price is set. Our £30 maximum price remains in place.

So if you’re looking to shop for gifts or presents for friends and family, or essentials or treats for your pets, come by and check out what we have available. And pop back again if you don’t find something the first visit, as new items will be added regularly, throughout the year.

We may have themed events from time to time, where the slow approach might go up a notch but generally, we’re taking the slow and steady path and hope you’ll enjoy coming along with us.
