It was in 2020 that Schnauzerfest first came to know, and help Nina and her adopters, Her full story can be read below.

Summer 2023

After successful cataract surgery and a good recovery, Nina has been enjoying a wonderful life, including a recent summer holiday in Norfolk.

Unfortunately, a large eye ulcer has recently developed. Treatment was started quickly, with the financial side being covered by a renewed Schnauzerfest Grant. Treatment included debridement and multiple eye drops, in the hope this would heal the ulcer.

Sadly, the ulcer has not improve and surgical intervention is advised which Nina will undergo shortly. The specialist is confident this will be successful.

Poor little thing is always in discomfort with something. Fingers crossed the operation works. Thank you again for your support and financial assistance. It is very much appreciated.

NINA’S STORY FOLLOWING HER ADOPTION - 2020-21

Nina’s less than loving background has led not only to physical problems, she struggles to accept new people, or any change. It’s still early days for her, and in the home, she is settled and loving, and will accept human love and attention.

With the devotion of her family to help her get through her upcoming eye surgery, Nina’s confidence and character are sure to flourish and shine.

Nina lives with her adopters Aileen and Peter and their four and half year old mini schnauzer Whiskey. Nina has not had a good life. But thanks to HARC Hope Animal Rescue and her adopters, it is getting a lot better.

While not many details are known about Nina’s life, it’s clear she’s been badly neglected. When rescued she was in a poor state including ear mites, a flea infestation, broken rib, and a large recurring abscess. Trauma had clearly marked this poor soul.

This is all behind her now and focussing on her future, the new year will see her having cataract surgery which will further help her move forwards.

FEBRUARY 2021

Nina’s cataract surgery went ahead and a week on, all is looking positive. At her post-op check up the recovery and healing was noted as going well. Pleasingly her eyesight appears to be good and reactive to movement and light.

There’s still several weeks of medication and monitoring ahead, but the very good news is that Nina can now resume her walks, something she loves and which she’s definitely been missing.

SEPTEMBER 2021

Nina recovered well from her cataract surgery which we’re pleased to say was a success. She is under regular monitoring and review as there has been a complication with spreading pigmentation, However, it’s hoped the eye drops will prevent this from becoming more problematic. She remains on eye drops for the time being.

Her overall health has greatly improved and at home Nina is a loving, cuddly dog as recent photos show.

However, Nina’s difficult, troubled past continues to cause her challenges when she is outside her safe and controlled home environment. She finds unfamiliar people worrying and matters reached a point where professional help was recently brought in. After everything Nina has been through, healing her physical health came first but now it is hoped the other sides of life will be equally brighter for her very soon.

Aileen and Peter are devoted to Nina and determined to do everything possible to ensure she is happy both at home and outside.
