When we heard that Gerard was running the Manchester Marathon in aid of Schnauzerfest we were keen to hear more about Ernie, his inspiration for committing to his first marathon.
Gerard,
“Last November I had to say a heartbreaking goodbye to my best mate Ernie, aged 13. He was the most adored miniature schnauzer and brought so much joy into our lives, and everyone who met him! Through having Ernie we became aware of the incredible work of Schnauzerfest.
As well as being a passionate, grant-giving charity dedicated to transforming the lives of all dogs in need by funding thousands of pounds’ worth of vital veterinary care, helping rescue centres, devoted fosterers, and loving adopters across the UK&IE, Schnauzerfest is a powerful voice raising awareness about the heartbreaking realities of low welfare breeding and the cruel world of puppy farming”.
The marathon went well for Gerard and he was spurred on by amazing support from everyone pre-race.
“I have been truly overwhelmed by the generous donations, not only from family and friends but the amazing schnauzer community! Heading into the race I was at around £1200 and it was this generosity that spurred me on so much!
I finished in 3 hours 24 minutes which I’m over the moon with, especially as it was my first ever marathon”
And as we knew he would be, Ernie was never far from Gerard during the run.
“I thought about Ernie often along the route as I saw quite a few schnauzers. Just by chance I got to meet the adorable Kylo who was stood near the finishers enclosure on the day. Once again thank you so much for all your donations and support.”
Gerard with Kylo
We are hugely grateful for the incredible sum of money which Gerard has raised, which at the time of writing is £1325. We know that to do anything as demanding as a marathon is truly a serious commitment and we are in awe. Thank you to everyone who has supported Gerard, as well as Ernie who continues to inspire.
